Whiskey – “Water of Life

Whiskey is what brought your boys together, and is what keeps us going. Whiskey Talk is our way of bringing our passion to you by not only educating on the history and whiskey making process, but also walking through our tasting notes to guide you as you dive deeper into a more enjoyable whiskey experience. The best way to enjoy whiskey is how you want to. Anyone who tells you different is wrong. We don’t care if you consume it with ice, in a cocktail, neat, or with water. We truly couldn’t care less. All that matters to us is we are all enjoying this beautifully complex distillate, and appreciating it all together.

We have this site broken out into each major faction, and then a catch-all bucket for Whiskey around the World. On each page you will find a brief description of what each type of Whiskey means, followed by all the reviews we have done with products that fit into that category. Our goal is to import every whiskey review we’ve ever done, dating back to Buffalo Happy Hour days, but that will take some time so bear with us. If you’d like to send us a bottle, please feel free. If you’re a distillery that would like us to review a bottle, you are more than welcome! Before you do, please read out ethics statement that goes over conditions for review.

Poke around, learn some facts, pour a dram, and let’s talk whiskey!

Whiskey Talk is a second YouTube Channel ran by the boys at the Buffalo Happy Hour that is specific to Whiskey content. Previously, it was all one channel, but the boys decided that it would be a good idea to break out the topics to tailor to each niche without over inundating your subscription feeds with content you do not care about!

WHISKEY REVIEWS

Our reviews consist of 4 main categories, Label/Branding, Nose, Initial Taste, and Ending Notes. We believe that these four categories are very important in understanding and adequately rating a whiskey. There’s so much passion and time that goes into not only the juice, but the marketing on the back end which is why we put such a high emphasis on the label, branding, and overall presentation. Nose, Initial Taste, and Ending Notes are all equally important as they impart notes that will impact the persons impression of the whiskey. So far, the boys have reviewed over 160 different products, and each one still has some surprising elements.

Their rating scale makes absolutely no sense, but it does at the same time. This scale is a homage to their History teacher in College. We’ll have to go for drinks so you can hear the whole story.

WANT TO LEARN MORE about whiskey?

With their whiskey certifications, extensive hands on “research” (aka drinking a ton of whiskey), and passion to teach, Derek and Mike have partnered up with Addy’s Wine and Spirits to give Whiskey Seminars. Covering the wide range of “what is whiskey” all the way down to blending, the objective isn’t to teach you everything they know. Instead, they want you to understand the time and appreciation that goes into the art of distilling and creating the products you see on the shelf. At the end of the day, if you want to put an ounce in a glass with ice that’s completely fine, as long as you can appreciate why someone else likes it in a cocktail or neat!

Both Derek and Mike believe to their core that there is no room for pompousness or pretentiousness in the Spirits industry. It doesn’t matter to them how you enjoy it, as long as we enjoy it together.

Head over to Addy’s and sign up for some whiskey classes. It’s an easy and cost-effective way to learn from some educated people, be visited by head distillers, and make new friends.
