A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US

Derek and Mike were friends in College and it all goes back to when they attended the Prestigious University of Southwestern Boulevard (if you know, you know). They both attended in hopes of getting their Criminal Justice degree on their way to become a Police Officer. Derek remembers it like it was yesterday. Minding his own business, and just hears a loud roar from the back of the room. It was no roar, it was just Mike Kelly. As the semester went on, they started becoming friends because they were the only two in the class that actually took college seriously, regardless how arbitrary and elementary some of the assignments were. They are both hell-bent on aligning their life with likeminded people. The stories of this class alone live on and on.

After graduation, Derek decided he was going to further his education with a more specialized degree, Forensic Science. Derek knew Mike’s focus remained on Criminal Justice, so the two paths parted from there. Or so we thought.

One day after graduating the Prestigious University of Southwestern Boulevard, Mike is walking through the halls in the Elite University of South Park Avenue. In perfect posture with shoulder blades back, his head is down in his phone. Suddenly down the hall, he hears “IS THAT MIKE KELLY?!” He looks up with a grin on his face and stares directly in the direction of Derek, standing opposite him with that jolly smirk on. The two run toward each other like it’s a scene from your favorite Romantic Comedy. Before, they were school acquaintances, now they are friends.

Hanging out outside of college and bonding around their cars created its own memories. Every time they would hang out, insane things would happen. Whether it was a car accident, swerving on the road, people spilling things, clumsy people, the boys always laughed the hardest when they were together. Were all these things THAT funny? Probably not, but the fact that they would relive these moments long after the moment had past just made it even more hilarious.

Guys become friends so easily. It could be three days of passing each other on the road and then BOOM, they go out for a beer and they are standing up in each others wedding. Derek helped Mike through Excel, and the Mike showed Derek how to sit correctly without having upper back and shoulder pain. It was a bromance that would stay forever. It was during this phase in their life where they met the famed Professor, who’s rating scale still lives on today. To hear more of that story, they need to tell you themselves!

A few years go by and the boys somewhat lose touch. Life gets in the way after college when you realize you need to start “adulting”, whatever that means. A few texts exchange here and there, but that was about it. It was during this time that Derek became obsessed with Golfing.

When Mike came back from his Deployment, Derek dragged Mike to go golf in an effort to reconnect and throw back some beers. Conversations always started with “dude, we need to do this more often” and “why is life so busy?” They needed to find a way to hang out more.

Reminiscing their college years on the golf course sparked an idea that was quickly brushed off. “We should start a podcast and talk about all the crazy things that we’ve seen together”. That idea was followed by “Yeah, sure, whatever” both discounting the fact that the other was secretly all in.

The next time they planned another 18, another crazy thing happened. Either a golf cart flipped over or the guy at the golf course said something crazy inappropriate, but that sparked both of them to bring up the podcast idea again. Little did both of them know, each had a notepad full of Podcast Topics, themes, names, and more that they were secretly working on just in case the idea came up again. October 2nd 2019, they made it official called “Buffalo Happy Hour.

As we are writing this “About Us” section 3 and a half years later, our lives are different but our vision remains the same. Both Derek and Mike are happily married, and Mike is expecting his first child. The affectionately refer to both wives as the “BHH Housewives”. Starting a business is tough enough, but starting a business that is primarily based on content is even harder in our opinion. Sure, there is lower overhead, but the stress on constantly putting out new content and diving into the analytics to see what’s trending is exhausting. Luckily their wives have been supportive every step of the way because they also believe in the vision we set out to accomplish. There’s a lot of hecticness in life, but a few things are for sure; Death, Taxes, and Buffalo Happy Hour
